P2W12: Limited Resources
backThe annual Harvest Festival is here. The stalls from the nearby eco-village are filled with fresh veggies, fruits, and jars of preserves. A curious girl, Ranjana, is visiting with her parents from the city.
Her eyes open wide by seeing the stalls overflowing with vegetables, fruits, and herbs. 'What is that?' she asks, pointing to a spiky green fruit. 'And those leafy things? I’ve never seen them in the supermarket!'
A friendly farmer smiles. 'That’s bitter melon, and those are mustard greens. Here in the ecovillage, we grow a wide variety of plants, not just the ones you find in big stores. Some are healthier, tastier, and even easier to grow than the usual crops.'
'Really? I thought all vegetables came from the same farms. Why doesn’t everyone eat these?'
'Supermarkets only sell what’s most profitable,' the farmer explains. 'But here, we grow what’s good for the soil, the plants, and us. The variety you see helps the environment and gives us more options for cooking. No chemicals needed!'
Ranjana looks amazed as she picks up a bunch of colorful greens. 'I had no idea there were so many vegetables in the world!'
