P2.7.5 Waste Audit

Step 1: Conduct a Waste Audit

  1. Track Your Waste:
    • For one week, record everything you throw away. Include all types of waste: food scraps, paper, plastic, etc.
  2. Categorize Your Waste:
    • Sort your waste into the following categories:
      • Recyclable: Items like plastic bottles, paper, glass.
      • Compostable: Items like food scraps, yard waste.
      • Landfill: Items that cannot be recycled or composted.

Step 2: Analyze Your Waste

  1. Identify Patterns:
    • Which category had the most items? Why?
  2. Reflect:
    • What surprised you about your waste habits?
    • Were there any items that didn’t clearly fit into one category?

Step 3: Create an Action Plan

  1. Set Goals for Improvement:
    • Minimalism: List 3 areas where you can reduce consumption or own fewer unnecessary items.
    • Composting: Plan how to start composting at home. If it’s not possible, explain why and propose alternatives.
    • Recycling: Research local recycling rules. Identify steps you can take to recycle more effectively.
  2. Implement Solutions:
    • Describe how you will take action in each area (e.g., specific habits, tools, or methods).

Step 4: Submit Your Work

    1. Summary of Findings:
      • Present a summary of your waste audit results. Include a table or chart showing the quantities in each category (Recyclable, Compostable, Landfill).
    2. Detailed Action Plan:
      • Outline your future steps for waste reduction, focusing on minimalism, composting, and recycling.

Format:

  • Include at least one visual element, such as:
    • A table with the tracking data (date / type of waste / amount of waste)
    • A pie chart showing your waste distribution.
    • Photos of your composting setup or other actions you’ve taken.
