P2.3.6 A Place to Live
SAMPLE ANSWERS
Habitats
- What types of habitats can you recognize around where you live? Are there forests, grasslands, wetlands, or other natural areas nearby?
- I live near a forest. It has tall trees, and I can hear birds singing every morning.
- There’s a small wetland near my house, with frogs and ducks. It’s very peaceful.
- Look around your area: Do you see any construction, farming, or other activities that might cause habitat loss?
- Yes, a new road is being built through the forest, and many trees have been cut down.
- Farming near my home has taken over a lot of grassland, and now I don’t see as many animals.
- Ask someone older, like your grandparents or parents: What was the environment like when they were young? Have they noticed changes in forests, rivers, or other natural places?
- My grandmother said the river near our house used to be much cleaner, and they could swim in it.
- My dad said there were more birds when he was a child because there were more trees.
- Imagine what your neighborhood looked like 100 years ago. What kind of habitat might have been there? What animals or plants might have lived there?
- I think my neighborhood was a forest 100 years ago. There were probably deer and foxes.
- It might have been grassland with lots of wildflowers and butterflies.
- What would happen if the habitats near your home disappeared? How would it affect animals, plants, and even people?
- If the forest near my home disappeared, birds and squirrels would lose their homes, and the air would feel less fresh.
- If the wetland dried up, the frogs and fish would die, and we might not have enough water.
- Are there any parks, forests, or protected areas near you? How do they help protect habitats? Have you ever visited one?
- There’s a national park nearby that protects tigers and other animals. I visited once and saw a tiger from far away!
- We have a small park in our neighborhood where they plant new trees every year. It helps keep the air clean.
Environment
- What does the habitat look like where you live?
- My area has fields and small trees. It’s mostly flat with lots of open sky.
- I live in a city, so there aren’t many natural habitats, just a few parks.
- How is it different from a rainforest or a desert?
- My area gets less rain than a rainforest, and it’s not as hot or dry as a desert.
- Rainforests have tall trees and lots of animals. Here, we only have small bushes and a few birds.
- Why is it important to protect habitats like oceans or forests? How would losing these habitats affect your life?
- Forests give us oxygen, and without them, the air would be polluted.
- If oceans are polluted, the fish we eat will disappear, and it will affect everyone.
- Have you ever visited a forest, desert, or beach? What did you see or feel there?
- I went to a beach once. The water was blue, and I found shells in the sand.
- I visited a forest during a school trip. It was so quiet, and the air smelled fresh.
- If you could live in any habitat, which one would it be and why?
- I’d love to live in a rainforest because it’s full of life and greenery.
- I’d choose a beach because I love the sound of waves and the feel of sand.
Your House
- How big is your house?
- My house has two bedrooms and a small garden.
- It’s an apartment with three rooms and a balcony.
- Is your house rented, or does your family own it?
- We own our house. My parents bought it five years ago.
- We rent an apartment because it’s close to my school.
- How many times have you moved in your life?
- I’ve moved twice. Once when I was little and once last year.
- I’ve never moved. We’ve always lived in the same house.
- Are you happy with your current home? Why or why not?
- Yes, I like it because it’s near my friends and school.
- Not really. It’s too small, and I wish we had a bigger yard.
- What do you like most about your current house?
- I love our garden because I can play outside and grow plants.
- I like the balcony. I sit there in the evening and watch the sunset.
- What don’t you like about it?
- Our house is too far from the park, so I don’t get to go often.
- It’s on a busy street, and the noise makes it hard to sleep.

- It would have a big yard, lots of plants, and a treehouse!
- I’d love to live in a beach house with glass walls and an ocean view.

- I’d move it closer to my school so I don’t have to travel far.
- Have you ever lived in a house you didn’t like? Why?
- Yes, when we lived in a very small apartment. It was crowded, and there was no place to play.
- Yes, once we stayed in a rented house where the roof leaked during rain.
