9.7 From Plate to Planet
backChecklist for planning
✅ Make a list of all dishes 📝
Make a big list of meal ideas ! Write down your favorite foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The more ideas, the better! Look for and add new recipes you like, so you’ll always have tasty ideas ready for meal planning.
✅ What's in Season? 🌱
When fruits and veggies are in season, they’re fresh, flavorful, and cheaper. So, look for foods that are “in season” like apples in fall or strawberries in spring, and you're basically getting the best of what nature has to offer!
✅ How Much Money? 💰
Pick ingredients that are on sale or in bulk, and you’ll save some coins for more fun activities (or maybe some extra snacks!).
✅ Is It Healthy? 🥦
Try to make sure your plate has a little bit of everything – veggies, protein, grains, and something yummy for dessert.
✅ How Much Time Do I Have? ⏰
If you have more time, go ahead and make that fancy stir-fry rice, but if you're in a hurry, choose quick meals like sandwiches! A great chef knows how to make delicious meals in all kinds of time frames.
✅ What Does Everyone Like? 🍕
Ask everyone in the family what they’re craving. A meal can be super tasty if it has everyone's favorite ingredients.
✅ Leftovers Are Superheroes! 🦸♂️
Leftovers are like secret ingredients for another meal! If you have extra rice, turn it into a stir-fry the next day. Or if there are leftover veggies, blend them into a yummy soup. It’s like playing with your food...but in a good way!
✅ Diet-Friendly Choices! 🥑
If someone in your family is vegetarian or needs gluten-free food, you can make meals that fit everyone’s needs. There are loads of fun recipes that are both delicious and good for different diets.
✅ Save the Planet! 🌍
Want to be a superhero for the Earth? You can help save the planet by eating more plant-based meals and using less plastic. Plus, less food waste means more food for everyone. So, be an Earth-saver with every meal!
✅ Now the jigsaw-puzzle 🧩
Make your meal plan for every day. Place the selected dishes so that similar ones aren’t right next to each other. Try not to repeat the same meal within the same week. This way, your meals will be more interesting and you’ll get to enjoy different flavors every day!
Shopping list!
Then, create a shopping list so you don’t buy too much. It’s like writing a secret map to avoid buying extra food that could get lost in the fridge and get all sad and moldy. 🤢🛒
