9.2 Hunger
backDid you know that some people in the world don’t always have enough food to eat? Hunger remains one of the world’s biggest challenges. Every day, nearly one billion people go to bed hungry. That’s what hunger means—not having enough good food to stay healthy and grow strong. The United Nations (a group of people from different countries working together to make the world better) created some big goals to help the world, and one of those goals is “No Hunger by 2030!”
A food shortage is when there isn’t enough food for everyone. This means some people might not have enough to eat, or certain foods might be very hard to get. Food shortages can happen in certain places, or even around the world, making it harder for people to get healthy, nutritious meals.

- Have you ever shared your food with someone who didn’t have enough? How did it make you feel?
- If you saw someone who looked very hungry, what would you want to do to help?
- What kinds of food do you think are important to help us grow strong and stay healthy?
- Why do you think some people don’t have enough food, even though there’s lots of food in the world?
