7.4.2 Future of Jobs Report

What are our chances to work?

If our parents are rich, we can afford to sit back and enjoy long holidays. For the rest of us, we can choose from four types on employment (and still enjoy life):

1. Full time employment

This is the traditional way of employment, typically a 9-to-5 job.

2. Gig economy, or freelancing

More and more popular form of employment, because it is flexible. However this kind of job is temporary, people sign up for projects. When the project ends, they have to find the next one. Also, workers have less protection, for example they have to sort out their healthcare, pension, etc.

3. Side hustle

It is a kind of second job which can grow into a main job, for example selling items online, having a popular youtube channel,  or do micro jobs on Mechanical Turk.

4. Self-employment, entrepreneurship

It seems to be the easiest way to work, but many who tried, think that this is the toughest and riskiest way, too. You need some capital to start, then good ideas, then hard work. No wonder, over 90% of entrepreneurs fail with their first business.
