4.9.16 Tallest Statues in the World

Statue of Unity - India

The tallest statue in the world is 182 metres tall. You can see a house next to the statue. It is not there in reality. I just want to show you how big this statue is.

It was built in 33 months. The cost was Rs. 28 billion (340 million USD).

It represents a politician, Mr. Patel, who helped 562 small Indian states bring together, to create India as it is now. He died nearly one hundred years ago, but people still remember him.

The statue has been visited by more than ten million people so far. It is the bigger version of another statue in the Ahmedabad International Airport. That one is ‘only’ around 5 metres tall.

  • Do you have a better idea how to spend Rs. 28 billion?
  • Do you like this statue?
  • Was Mr. Patel a good man? Is it good to remember him after a hundred year?
