backMichael came from England to see Delhi. On his first day he decided to walk around and explore the city on foot. However he had no idea how to navigate the busy streets and crowded markets. He had heard that it was better not to have too much cash and mobile with him, so he just left his mobile in his room. As he was walking around, he suddenly realised that he was lost. He bought a city map, but he was not good at reading maps. He had no idea where he was or how to get back to his hotel. He asked a man for directions, but the person didn’t speak English. The man explained to him how to get back to the hotel, but Michael didn’t understand a word. |
He decided to take a break and sit down on a bench. As he was sitting there, a group of monkeys suddenly appeared and started jumping around him. Michael was scared and didn’t know what to do. Just then a woman who was passing by saw Michael’s trouble and came to his rescue. She drove away the monkeys and asked Michael what had happened. She spoke good English, so Michael felt a great relief. He explained that he was lost and didn’t know how to get back to his hotel. The woman offered to help him. She waved at a coming rickshaw and gave the driver directions to the hotel. Before getting into the rickshaw, Michael suddenly realised that he didn’t have his bag. He had left it on the bench where he had been sitting. He told the woman about it. The woman laughed and said, “Don’t worry, Michael, I am sure nobody stole it. They were the monkeys playing with you. They love to steal things and play tricks on people. I am sure your bag is safe”. Michael went back to the bench, and what a wonder, the bag was there, untouched.
Michael thanked the woman for her kindness. He went back to the hotel and started to learn how to read maps. Then he just changed his mind. He decided to use his mobile to navigate. “Even if the monkeys steal the mobile, they will return it”, he thought.
