4.8.5 Thirst

I read a lot about people who have to walk half days to find water. Others have no clean water. I felt sorry for them, so I decided not to use water for a week. I wanted to try out how life feels without water.

When I got up the next morning, I was already in trouble. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, but without water? I felt the toothpaste in my mouth even when I had my breakfast. Instead of drinking tea or water, I had an apple. However I had some problem with it. I was not allowed to wash the apple, so I cleaned it with a paper towel. After breakfast I left my dirty plates in the sink. At school everything was fine, but I felt thirsty all the time. I ate some cucumbers, because they have a lot of water inside. In the evening I didn’t wash myself.  The next days were the same. No washing, no cleaning, I didn’t even change my clothes.

On the third day nobody wanted to sit next to me in the classroom. When I went home, my mother said: Sorry Sarah, you smell bad. You either go to the bathroom and wash yourself, or just go to your room and don’t even come out.

I gave up. I went to the bathroom and enjoyed the shower as much as never before.
