Fluoride

It happened twenty years ago. More and more people in the village got ill. Their bones bent so badly out of shape that many could not wash, eat, or move around without help. We thought that bad spirits torture them. My kids also got ill. One day a witch doctor arrived at the village. He said he could treat the illness. He poured some oil on my boys' legs while singing some crazy song. I paid one thousand rupees for it, but it didn't work. Then another witch doctor came and tried, but nothing worked. I spent 27 thousand rupees in 3 years, but my kids got worse.

Then a real doctor came to the village and told us that we should drink clean water. He said our water from the wells has too much fluoride in it and it bends bones. He gave us vitamins and it helped most children, but not all. My 18-year old son still cannot walk, but it helped my 8-year old. His legs are straight now and he can walk. We don’t use the bad wells anymore.
