4.8.13 Where Water Comes From

This is the photo of India from the space. India is a lucky country, because there is a lot of water around it. The blue area is the Indian ocean. The green areas have green plants like forests. These areas receive enough rain.

There is only one, smaller yellow area, Rajasthan. There are fewer plants, and no forests. This area receives little rain, that's why it is dry.  There are no rivers in Rajasthan, either. Of course there is answer to the water problem: a canal was built from the Sutlej river in Punjab to bring water for Rajasthan. Canals are rivers built by people. The canal is over 100 years old and serves many people, but not all in Rajasthan.

  • Do you live in a dry or wet area?
  • Do you have a lot of rain?
  • Are there rivers in your area?
  • Do you know a canal near your place?
  • What do you think? Should people build another canal? Where?
