4.6.8 Cinderella

In the story Cinderella was poor and only a maid, but she became a princess. In India today little princesses become maids.

Aashvi wanted to be a doctor. She had good grades at school. She was 16 when her school closed down because of Covid. Her father said: “you should marry, not sit at home.”
Aashvi was a good daughter, so she didn’t say no.
The parents found a guy with a good job. He was much older, and not handsome. He said if they get married, he would let Aashvi study and become a doctor.
After marriage everything changed. She had to work from early morning until late night for her husband’s family. They used her as a maid. She did all the cooking, washing and cleaning. She was a real Cinderella. It was not enough, her husband beat her every day. After two month she went back to her parents’ house. Her parents are good people. Her father wants her to study now.

  • Can you tell the story in short?
  • What do you think about her father?
  • What do you think about her husband?
  • What would you tell Aashvi if she was your sister before and after the marriage?
  • What do you think, at what age should girls get married?
