Chapter 9

After treating and healing all the monkeys, the doctor decided to go home. The monkeys were very sad, they wanted John to stay with them forever. Then Che-Che, the doctor’s monkey said, " The Doctor has to go home, because he has to give money to the fisherman for this trip.”

The monkeys didn’t understand what ‘money’ is. Che-Che explained, “You can do nothing without money. It is impossible to live without money.”

The monkeys asked, “Can you not even eat and drink without money?”

Che-Che shook his head. The oldest orangutan shook his head, too.

“Who would live in such land? In the forest you get everything for free.”

Che-Che went on, “When we were coming to you, we had no money. A fisherman gave us his ship and another one gave us biscuits. Now we have to go back and give them money. They are poor people.”

All the monkeys were thinking hard. Finally the biggest baboon said, “Let’s give him the finest present he ever had!”

Che-Che said, "If you want to please him, give him a rare animal.”

The monkeys decided to give him a pushmi-pullyu.
