backTurtles in Trouble
Think about it, they were so tiny, like a coin when they got out of the egg, and they grow as big as a ten-year-old kid. However, they grow much slower, in 20-30 years. Yeah, turtles are slow, as we know. It takes a lot of time to grow up, and this is where their trouble starts. They are ready to lay their eggs only at the age of 30. Think about it, cats can have babies as young as 4 months old. Interestingly, turtles still remember the place where they were born after 30 years. They swim back to the same beach and leave their eggs in the sand. However, the world has changed since then. Thirty years is a long time. Now there is a hotel just next to the beach, ships in the water, people everywhere, swimming and enjoying the sunshine. Poor turtles don’t find a good place to lay their eggs and go back to the ocean.
There are fewer and fewer turtles, and it is all because of us, people. If they are not killed by our rubbish, they end up in different ways. In some parts of the world, people eat turtle meat. In other places, people use their body parts, make oil, and use their skin to make wallets, and even sunglasses and rings.
What the Turtle Project Does
Good people find and protect the eggs. They help the babies find the ocean. Spread the word to protect turtles. Spread the word to protect nature.
Why Do We Protect Turtles?
If sea turtles die out, who will take care of the health of the oceans? Sea grass would grow too long and die, too. Also, birds and other animals would go hungry if they cannot eat the baby turtles. Turtles are part of nature. If we take them out, nature would be less healthy.
