3.7.15 The Earth is my Home

This is a true story about my friend, Ravi. He is not young anymore, but he still doesn’t have a family. He likes travelling. He says he could not do it with a family.

Ravi’s parents are from Goa, India, but he never lived there. He was born in Japan, because his parents were working there, they were businesspeople. When he was 4, his family moved to Brazil. He went to school there, but later his parents sent him to New Your, to study at a famous university. He lived in the United States with his sister until he was 30, then he moved to Asia, living first in Singapore, then Thailand, and later Malaysia. Over time, he became a famous writer, so he could work anywhere.

Hiking has always been his hobby, and it still is. Sometimes he goes on hiking trips for months. He has his backpack with everything he needs. He sees no one for weeks. He hikes through mountains and forests, with a tent in his backpack, finding food like mushrooms, berries, and nuts along the way. He likes being on his own, thinking about his writings.

Once he went to Israel. He was walking through a village when a man stopped him and asked with an angry face, “What are you doing in my country?” Ravi smiled and asked back: what are you doing on my Earth?

  • What do you think is Ravi’s nationality?
  • What does he think about his nationality?
  • Where do you think Ravi's home is? Does he have a home?
