Sekem (Egypt)

Zorp: Sekem, Egypt, desert. Wait a minute… how are plants growing here? This is all sand! Do you humans have magic powers?

Sekem Guide: No magic, just a lot of hard work and sustainable farming. We have learned how to bring life back to the desert by using organic farming and conserving water.

Zorp: Turning sand into green fields? That’s impressive! On Zog, our soil turned to dust, and nothing would grow.

Sekem Guide: We have been working on this for over 40 years. It’s not easy, but with care and patience, even the desert can bloom.

Zorp: And these crops… do you sell them or keep them all?

Sekem Guide: We grow food for our community and sell some to nearby towns. We also share our farming methods to help others transform their land.

Zorp: You share your secrets? That’s generous. How many people live here?

Sekem Guide: We have around 500 people, including families and workers. We also welcome visitors and students who come to learn from us.

Zorp: 500 people and visitors? This place must stay busy. But… what do you do about this blazing sun? My green skin might turn red!

Sekem Guide: We stay cool by using shaded areas and wearing light clothes. And don’t worry, we will find you a hat!

Zorp: Hmm, a green oasis, farming secrets, and hats? I like it. Maybe Zog can learn from you, but I will need plenty of sunscreen if I stay!
