10.9 Life in Eco-villages
backA Visit to the City
A few weeks later, Eco Mouse visited City Mouse in the city.
Eco Mouse arrived in the city at night, overwhelmed by the bright lights and constant noise.
"Welcome to my world!" City Mouse said, leading Eco Mouse to his apartment.
As they climbed the stairs, Eco Mouse sniffed the air. "What’s that smell?"
City Mouse shrugged. "Oh, that’s just pollution from the traffic outside. Don’t worry, I have an air filter in my apartment."
Inside, City Mouse showed off his gadgets and treated Eco Mouse to a fast-food dinner. But before Eco Mouse could take a bite, the apartment shook.
"What was that?" Eco Mouse asked, his ears twitching.
City Mouse barely looked up. "Oh, just construction nearby. They’re building another skyscraper."
Later that night, as the mice relaxed in City Mouse’s living room, the ground shook again. This time, a loud alarm blared outside.
"What’s happening?" Eco Mouse asked, his fur standing on end.
City Mouse peered out the window. "Looks like another flood warning. Don’t worry, it happens a lot here. We just stay inside until it passes."
Suddenly, the lights flickered and went out. City Mouse sighed. "The power grid must be overloaded again. I will grab some candles."
Eco Mouse shook his head. "Why don’t you fix these problems instead of running from them every time? Floods, blackouts, pollution… this isn’t safe!"
City Mouse laughed nervously. "Fix them? How? That’s just city life. You get used to it."
