6.6.5 Good and Bad things in India
I have eight kids myself, five boys and three girls. In a city, all of them can find jobs easily. Even the youngest, the 14-year old girl, can work at the local market after school. It would be more difficult in a village. We rent a two-bedroom flat, for ten of us. We don’t have enough money to rent a bigger one. Though I don’t know what will happen when the boys get married. Will they bring their wives into our flat?
I love Mumbai, I would not move out. But I have a daily struggle to reach my school. One of my classmates was killed in a train accident. It happens daily in the city. He traveled on the top of the train, and fell down. There are too many people in a small place.
Having many kids is a blessing, because I will have support in old age. It is good that you have a lot of people around you. You can always find a helping hand.
Sometimes I go to Delhi and it is hard to find space to breathe there. It is confusing to see the streets with a constant flow of people, vehicles, and vendors. The noise is unbearable, the sounds of honking horns, bustling markets, and the calls of street vendors. Our life in the village is more peaceful and slower. Maybe it won’t last long, because we have too many kids. My school has small classrooms, and there are 67 kids in my class. Sometimes we have to study outside.
