4.6.10 Adverbs Ending with -ly

Adverbs are words in sentences that give information about how things happen. The sentences are fine without them, we understand them, but with the adverb we know more.

The car was close to me. The car was dangerously close to me (it nearly hit me).

Many of them end with -ly, and we can make our adverbs from adjectives:

Adjectives Adverbs
sudden suddenly
near nearly
heavy heavily
accident accident-al-ly
serious seriously
dangerous dangerously
polite politely
wonderful wonderfully
rare rarely
exact exactly
unhealthy unhealthily
bitter bitterly
simple simply
lucky luckily
quick quickly
narrow narrowly
ugly Hehe, no, there is no word such as ugly-ly.
    • Pick three words from the table and make sentences with them.
