4.1 Cooking and Making Guide

INTRO

If you have the same mother tongue as the learner, it is time to forget about it. Use only English. When the learner doesn't understand something, try to explain it with different words or show with body language. You can also use images on the internet.

Also, you are not supposed to complete all the questions from this guide. Take your time, and concentrate on the discussion with the learners. Try to get them talk as much as possible. When they don't understand you, use two strategies:

  1. Try to rephrase what you are saying, accompanied even with body language or images
  2. If it is not working, just move on to the next question

When you notice that they don't prepare to the session properly (e.g. they don't know words, rules), take some time to practice those and don't worry much about the questions in this guide to cover. The main purpose of live session is to familiarize the learners with the language and motivate them to learn. Take it easy.

Now let's start!

Ask the learner about the module:

  • whether he/she saw all the units (why not if any)
  • what did he/she learn from the module
  • which unit was easy/difficult and why
  • Use the form to log

Vocab: cooking verbs and objects

Grammar: 1. passive (made from), but only in special cases, with examples. No rule should be learned yet; 2. verbal adjectives (only past tense: e.g. boiled egg) 3. would

Ask the learner if he/she has any questions about the module. Discuss.
